Funding for 2012, medal ambitions or participation for all?
UK Sport is to indicate how they intend to use the 2012 budgets prior to the official announcement due this December. This has led to an interesting discussion about where this funding should go?
Do we focus on medal prospects or should we invest across the board in ensuring that Great Britain fields a full team across all Olympic disciplines?
Where would you rather see the money go? Swimming, Cycling and Sailing or Basketball, Handball and Volleyball? It’s an interesting standoff between the UK Sport policy of ‘matching funding with genuine medal-winning potential’ versus the BOA’s desire to field a ‘full team’.
So, should we be focussing on topping the medal table or should we be interested in creating a lasting sporting legacy in this country? Would you rather watch Team GB in some events or would you prefer a ‘home’ presence in them all?

personally, i would love to see netball at the olympics in 2012. its a great sport for all ages. there is quite alot of younger talent about for the sport! it would be a shame for the government to contradict themselves by saying youth need to exercise more & yet the sport that so many enjoy has not alot of media coverage, who knows there could even be another medal opportunity for GB there!
Isn’t the problem with netball that it isn’t a global sport? Same reason why cricket, Kabadi and crown green bowls are not incluided? I’m not knocking it, as I think netball’s a great sport, but if they allowed all regional sports into the Olympics then we’d have hundreds more events and lots that had only entrants from one continent.
Maybe you should start a campaign to get netball played in the continents where it isn’t currently player ;o)
