The British are coming, the British are coming!!

Wow, I hope everyone has been enthralled by Team GB’s performance at the Olympic Games in Beijing, if not then I can highly recommend the 30 minute review by Eddie Butler, amazing stuff: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7579964.stm

To put it into perspective, this was the greatest medal haul by Team GB since the London Olympics in 1908, finishing 4th overhaul with 47 medals, 19 of which were gold, topping the tables in Cycling, Rowing and Sailing. We’ve been so successful that the Australians have now started looking at implementing aspects of our funding and performance development, what a turnaround! Typified I think by the rowing where the Men’s coxless four overhauled Australia to take gold accompanied by some classic commentary:

“Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are, scream and shout at the TV……the British are coming, the British are coming…..they’re through, they’ve done it…… gold medal Great Britain!!!!”

Amazing stuff.

So onto London 2012 and the debate about whether we can better the brilliance of Beijing? Will it be the same champions competing again? Who will be the new challengers seeking Olympic glory? Is the British public looking forwards to the 2012 games? How can we all get involved in making Team GB a success in 2012?

Well here at www.intosport.com we believe that interest and participation in sport are vital in the run up to London 2012. If more people are getting into sport, learning new sports, improving their own standard and supporting sport then it will drive public interest, funding and results. Part of this will be engaging past, present and prospective players into sport by empowering them with the information, coaching and support to make their participation an enjoyable and successful journey.

www.intosport.com will provide this information, coaching and support and be part of that upward spiral of sporting success towards London 2012. We’re bringing you the home of world class sports coaching online for free, because we think it’s about time that everyone had access to the best sporting resources.

We’re also looking beyond London 2012. An interesting fact to look at is the sustainability of previous Olympic success. After the great medal haul of 55 at the 1908 games, Team GB fell back to just 11 medals in 1912 Stockholm games and a wait of 100 years for a result that even came close. Long term athlete development and ongoing sporting success are part of the www.intosport.com framework as we believe not only in providing for the champions of 2012 but for every year and every Olympic Games after that.
